South Korean volleyball icon Kim Yeon-koung left the Turkish club Eczacibasi VitrA after two seasons. There are speculations that she will be going to play in China next. The Turkish squad said that both sides agreed with the move.
Kim was the captain of Eczacibasi last season. She helped the squad win two Super Cup championships in Turkey. Also, they won a silver and bronze at the previous two outings of the FIVB Club World Championships.
The South Korean volleyball superstar signed up a two-year contract with Eczacibasi in 2018. The contract expired this month. There are rumors that she would be returning to China. She played a season for Shanghai Bright Ubest in the Chinese Volleyball Super League in 2017 to 2018 season.
Next Step for South Korean Volleyball Icon
Aside from Shanghai Bright Ubest, there are other teams interested in employing Kim. According to sports news reports, Beijing BAIC Motor offered Kim a contract. However, there were no confirmations about the story.
The South Korean outside hitter won several individual awards and championships in her 15-year career. She played in various countries, such as South Korea, China, Japan, and Turkey. Also, she was the MVP of the women’s volleyball event at the London Olympics in 2012. The South Korean women’s volleyball squad finished fourth that year, based on betting odds sources.
In a recent YouTube video, she reviewed a clip from the anime Haikyu. She explained how the actions of the characters in the anime reflected actual action on the court. Due to the cancellation of volleyball leagues and the Olympics, she has lots of free time to do other things according to sportsbook reviews and news reports.
Before the coronavirus outbreak, she had a hectic schedule that had her traveling between different countries each week. Also, the women’s national team was busy preparing for the supposed 2020 Tokyo Olympics before it was postponed.
