Kim Min-sun wins the silver medal in 1000m at the World Cup. She is the first South Korean female speed skater to do so. Netherland’s Jutta Leerdam won the gold medal. Since the start of the speed skating World Cup, Koreans haven’t won gold or silver medals in the 1000m category.
According to sports news reports, Lee Sang-hwa has 94 medals from the World Cup. However, the best she got from the 1000m race was two bronze medals.
The day before, in her primary competition, the 500-meter individual race, Kim earned her first gold medal from the World Cup. Her chances of capturing another award at the next Winter Olympics in Milan to Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, became even more promising after she added a silver medal in the 1,000-meter competition on Tuesday. Kim Min-sun finished 16th in the 1,000-meter race and 7th in the 500-meter race at the Beijing Olympics in February of this year.

In the women’s 500-meter race at the Fall Classic 2017 in Calgary, Canada, in September 2017, Kim broke Lee Sang-world hwa’s junior mark (37.81) by 0.11 seconds to finish in 37.70, making her one of the front-runners to succeed him.
