For a short while, Basketball news – Lakers news, specifically, was full of information on Luke Walton parting ways with the Lakers. NBA betting fans were abuzz with rumors on why he left the team, if certain superstar players had to do with this, or if it was a front office issue. Of course, basketball betting predictions won’t be affected by this yet, as the Lakers took an early break this season.
But the latest news going around, is that Frank Vogel has signed a three-year contract to coach the Los Angeles Lakers. The process was very speedy as well. Vogel met the management team of the Lakers on a Thursday, and got an offer by Saturday.
Lakers News: New coach and More
The deal was signed Saturday afternoon. But the added bonus, is that Jason Kidd will be joining as well. Kidd will serve as assistant coach. If anything, having Jason Kidd be able to work with Lonzo Ball could give us a totally different Lakers next season. Kidd also has background working with Jason Kidd, as they were both once teammates in USA basketball.
Vogel is the third coach that was offered the job. The first two who said no were Monty Williams and Ty Lue. Most people might wonder why Vogel is an option, considering his stint with the Orlando Magic. Vogel was their coach from 2016-2018. But most should remember that Vogel also had five seasons with the Indiana Pacers. Through him, the Pacers landed the Eastern Conference finals from 2012-2014.
Not only that, but Vogel also had 25-181 with the Pacers. He also holds the record for the second-most wins and second-highest (.580) win percentage by a head coach in the history of their franchise. IT would be interesting to see how Vogel, with Kidd’s help, can give the Lakers a better shot next season.
