Left-hander Ryu Hyun-jin is one of the nominees for the National League Cy Young Award. The LA Dodgers pitcher led the league with 2.32 ERA this year, which led to his nomination by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.
Ryu is the first South Korean to get a nomination for the Cy Young award in the MLB. It will increase his value as he enters the free agency market. The members of the BBWAA already cast their votes at the end of the regular season, and they will announce the winner on November 13.
Ryu Hyun-jin went 14-5 this season. He threw 182 2/3 innings, which was his highest number of innings since his rookie season when he pitched 192 innings. It was an excellent performance for Ryu, whose career was derailed by elbow and shoulder surgeries that sidelined him for the whole of 2015. Also, the injuries had him start just one game in 2016.

Scherzer had a 2.92 ERA with a record of 11-7. It is his fifth straight season with below-3.00 ERA. Also, he is the FIB leader in MLB with 2.45.
