Here’s a short history lesson on Bovada’s past. It started as Bodog in 2004. It rebranded to Bovada in 2011 after the infamous Black Friday. However, it sold its poker platform to Ignition in 2016. A year later, the company relaunched.
Although Bovada has a solid poker platform, it is not perfect. After it lost its gaming license from Kahnawake Gaming Commission in 2016, it decided not to apply for a new one from another jurisdiction.
Bovada thinks that gaming licenses will result in more business taxes and fees. However, many poker players still use the platform despite its lack of license. Also, Bovada’s VIP program offers provides a small reward.
One thing we like about Bovada is that its poker rooms have a relaxed atmosphere. No advanced players are preying on newbies via statistical analysis or table selection. Instead, you get to experience playing poker in an actual casino where you develop reads based on the players’ actions for the day.

We played on Bovada for a week. When its software is working correctly, the poker rooms look pretty. However, there are some instances where we found ourselves the only player in the lobby. Also, there are no tournaments when you play using the mobile app.
