Police Question K-Pop Star about Illicit Overseas Gambling

South Korea has some of the harshest gambling laws in the world which prohibits its citizens from gambling overseas. The latest news is about ex K-Pop star Seungri and Yang Hyun-suk about their latest trip in Las Vegas. Thus, it was only natural that on Wednesday, Police Question K-Pop Star about Illicit Overseas Gambling.

Furthermore, the former BIGBANG boyband member Seungri also faces charges of arranging sex services for potential investors in his business. For Seungri, whose real name is Lee Seung-hyun, this is just his latest scandal.  This is because back in March, he had to retire from his band after a scandal involving sex and drugs.

Police Question former K-Pop Star Seungri about Illicit Overseas GamblingAccording to the latest online gambling news, Seungri made his appearance today at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. Furthermore, the police will also interview Yang Hyun-suk, the former head of Seungri’s former agency YG Entertainment. This is because Yang is also facing the same charges.

According to sports news coverage, this all began after their trip to the MGM Grand Las Vegas Hotel and Casino.   Under the law in South Korea, Korean can only gamble at the casino in Gangwon Province.  Thus, it is illegal for them to gamble overseas as Korea operates extra-territorial jurisdiction regarding actions that are illegal there.

In addition, a person that is caught gambling in other locations can receive a fine of up to $10 million Won.  Furthermore, perpetual gamblers can also go to jail for up to three years or receive a 20 Million Won fine. According to Pay Per Head providers, this also includes online casino gambling inside and outside of South Korea.

According to the allegations, both men were regular guests in VIP rooms where the gambled millions of dollars. Part of the allegations also include illegal funds for gambling which is in violation of the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time Seungri is facing the South Korean justice system.  This is because earlier this year Seungri was also arrested for buying sex, providing female escort services for foreign investors.  Therefore, he also faces charges against him for embezzling at least 500 million won from the nightclub. The police sent the case to the prosecution in June, asking them to indict him.
