The eSports betting market just keeps getting bigger and will be worth over $205 billion by 2027. Needless to say, many gambling operators and providers are trying to get a piece of the eSports market. Following suit with that pattern, sports betting provider, Kambi Acquires Abios, a leading global provider of eSports data.
According to eSports Betting News, the acquisition of Abios cost Kambi a total of $31 million. Furthermore, Kambi will make an initial payment of $17.2 million. However, the second payment will depend on how the companies’ eSports business performs on the market. The deal does state the maximum payment Kambi will make is $13.8 million.
Kambi Acquires Abios to expand into the eSports Betting Market
Now that Kambi is acquiring Abios, they will finally get to strengthen their position in the eSports market. According to Online Gambling in South Korea news, Kambi has been looking to enter this market for a long time. Therefore, Abios is exactly what Kambi was needing to do just that.
Following the acquisition, Abios will continue to provide eSports data to their current clients. Last year, Abios made $2 million in revenue from their eSports data and betting odds services. In fact, they provide such data to big names in the gaming industry like Pinnacle, Kindred, LeoVegas and Microsoft. Abios is also the official eSports data partner for Clarion Gaming which is a big eSports event organizer.
Furthermore, Abios will keep its CEO, Oskar Froberg and its CTO, Anton Janer. Since both share the same long-term goal as Kambi, it makes sense for them to continue working together.
Kristian Nylén, the co-founder and CEO of Kambi is happy to work with Abios. Furthermore, he is eager to see what “the integration of Abios to Kambi’s modular platform will bring to esports betting”.
For its part, Abios is of course, very happy with the partnership. On their Twitter feed, Janer and Froberg said they “We couldn’t be more excited about joining @KambiSports “.
