DC Lottery initially estimated a $1.5 million revenue. However, it is expecting around $2.1 million this year. The early tax revenue estimates were optimistic but didn’t account for the issues. For example, some council members asked whether or not removing GamBet’s monopoly could make the market more competitive.

The Lottery said no. However, industry experts said that competition would improve sports betting odds and other services in DC.
